Slip road! Truck carrying thousands of EELS crashes spilling slime everywhere

The creatures, known scientifically as hagfish, are renowned for their habit of releasing gallons of goo whenever they are under stress.

They were en route to the coast to be shipped to Korea, where they are a delicacy and considered to be an aphrodisiac, when the truck driver slammed on his brakes to avoid roadworks on Highway 101 near the town of Salem yesterday morning.

Three other cars crashed in the slippery mess.

A police spokesman said: “When hagfish become stressed, they secrete a slime, which can be seen in photos of the vehicles on the highway.”n. 

Firefighters were called to hose the slime off the road and chase off any wriggling escapees to prevent another accident.
